Making the Most of Your Kindermusik Experience...

  • ARRIVE ON TIME  We do ask that you make it a priority to arrive on time. In fact, plan on arriving a few minutes early. This gives you a few minutes to remove coats and shoes and settle into the musical environment. However, please respect that our educators need time to prepare themselves and the classroom. Please arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before your class begins. We know that life happens and occasionally you may be running late. If you arrive after class has started please slip in as unobtrusively and quietly as possible.
  • SHOES & SUCH Although we have rugs for seated activities, the studio floors can be slippery. Plan on bare feet or socks with skid resistant soles for both you and your child. Please leave shoes and coats in our lobby but bring valuables into the studio.
  • PARENT/CHILD CONNECTION During class, the most important thing you can do for your child is to be a focused, active and patient role model. Please save “grown-up” chat for before and after class. This is a special time for you and your child to be together in a creative, enriching environment. When you are an active, engaged participant in class activities your child will model your actions and focus more fully, too. Although we strive to build a warm Kindermusik community in the classroom, please keep grown-up chat to a minimum. To get the most out of class your child needs and deserves your undivided attention. If you have a child in ‘Imagine That’ or ‘Young Child’ please return promptly for Sharing Time as your student will need your support during our parent/child activities.
  • PARTICIPATION It is not uncommon for a child to attend several classes before feeling comfortable in class. What a child is absorbing during class is often evidenced in the comfort of the home environment rather than to a certain level of participation in class. The understanding, sensitivity and consistency of the parent or caregiver in class and at home are the key to facilitating musical learning and growth. Remember, children come in all ages, stages, and personality types. At Song of the Heart we are understanding, accepting and supportive of all children and parents. Often, parents tell us that they see a completely different child at home than they experience in class. This is normal and to be expected. Some children are naturally hesitant and others become over-stimulated in a group. You may find that your child would prefer to sit quietly with you or may want to get up and get moving.  If your child appears distracted, hyper, or cannot focus on the present activity, please don’t worry or feel pressure to push your child toward what you believe is a more acceptable form of participation.  Children learn in a multitude of ways, some of which are unfamiliar, may appear paradoxical, or even evoke feelings of discomfort for us as adults.  Our classroom celebrates all modes of learning and it is not necessary for your child to participate in a classical way (i.e. sitting still and listening, singing along, responding directly to questions, etc.) for her to make tremendous gains.  Relax, enjoy, and actively PLAY with your child in class and at home!  Together you’ll find the best way for the two of you to connect and participate.
  • HOME MATERIALS Your child will benefit enormously from the use of our fabulous and enriching Home Materials. Frequent reinforcement and play at home during the week makes all the difference in a child’s level of comfort and participation in class. Our educationally sound Home Materials allow you to take the learning to your house where you can use them to make every day a Kindermusik day.
  • HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE The Song of the Heart Boutique is open before our Holiday breaks in December and April. We offer beautiful Folkmanis Puppets sold at 25% below retail as well as wonderful instruments and CDs for your gift buying and personal needs. Folkmanis puppets are available for order year round. Please check with Carol for a catalog and price sheet.
  • BOOK ORDERS Song of the Heart makes Scholastic Books available to our families two times per semester. This service allows you to add to your family library with inexpensive and up to date books. Simply pick up an order form in the studio and return your completed order form, along with one check made out to Scholastic, the following week. Your books will be delivered right to your Kindermusik class in two short weeks.

Our Classroom Polices

  • MAKE UP POLICY There are no refunds for student absences. Song of the Heart is not required to offer make-ups for personal travel or illness, but as a courtesy to our Kindermusik families, we allow 2 make ups per student per curriculum session. If your child has missed a class or you know he or she will be missing a future class, you may contact the office at 801-953-0416 or email Ms.Carol at kmcarol@comcast.net to schedule a make-up class. Make-ups are not available in classes that are at capacity. Any classes canceled due to educator illness will be made up.  Please contact Ms. Carol if you have a question or a special circumstance or need.
  • CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR Our classes provide your child with a safe place for learning about and testing his social boundaries.  This is a normal and natural part of his development. We do ask that you be sensitive to his safety as well as the safety and enjoyment of others in class. If your child begins to explore a behavior which poses a danger to himself or others in class (such as running or throwing an instrument) we ask that you first take a deep breath and then help your child positively refocus his energy.  We urge you to communicate what your child can do in class (i.e. “hold on tight to your rhythm sticks” instead of “don’t throw!” or “use your walking feet” instead of “no running!”).  Although we are happy to partner with you and help you find workable, meaningful solutions for behaviors you wish to eliminate, our staff is not responsible for disciplining your child.  Please feel free to contact us anytime to request the support you need.
  • TOYS, PHONES & FOOD No food or drink is allowed in the classroom. Please keep toys, pacifiers, drink cups, etc. out of sight. Silence your cell phone while you are in the Kindermusik classroom. Please take calls after class as they are a distraction to others and take you away from spending one on one time with your child.
  • UN-ENROLLED SIBLINGS We are unable to accommodate un-enrolled siblings unless they are young enough to be content in a stroller or infant carrier. Special circumstances or emergency situations will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Please do not leave unattended children alone in the hallway.
  • VISITORS Adult guests such as grandparents and your partner are welcome any time. If you would like to bring along a friend for a free class preview we are happy to accommodate them as long as there is room in your class. Please call 801-953-0416 a week in advance to schedule their visit.
  • WATCHING CLASS It is distracting and disruptive to have parents or siblings watching class through the window. We ask that you please wait quietly in the lobby or waiting room for us to come and escort you to Sharing Time. We will share our classroom experiences with you then.

Discounts & Offers:

  • REFERRAL REWARDS!  Refer a new-to-Kindermusik friend.  When they enroll you’ll receive a $10 tuition gift certificate.  No limit!
  • REPEAT BENEFITS!  If you have any of this year’s materials from a previous enrollment, ask for your ‘second time around’ discount.
  • SIBLING SAVINGS!  Receive a $20 discount when enrolling more than one child.

Enrollment & Fees:

  • We make it easy for you by offering our school-year extended enrollment.  Once enrolled, your spot in class is guaranteed September through May for the same day and time.  In February we will be promoting students, as appropriate , to the next age level in partnership with the parent.  This is also the time when we are happy to transfer you to another day or time to accommodate a change in schedule.   If you need to un-enroll at the theme change in February, please let us know by December 1st.  Otherwise, your enrollment continues and is guaranteed through May.  If you have chosen our installment plan, nine equal installments will be charged to your card with the first due at registration and the others processed on the 5th of each month (excluding December).  New students are welcome to enroll at any time with pro-rated tuition.  In the event of a cancellation by an enrolled family, there are no refunds for At-Home Materials that have been prepared for class or opened.  Class schedule and educator assignments may be subject to change. A minimum of 5 children is required for a class to run. If a class is canceled by Song of the Heart for any reason, a full tuition and materials refund will be given.
